Office Duties: Performs general administrative duties for the County Highway Department which includes: Coordinating maintenance activities on both the State and County Trunk Highway Systems; Highway Department records; Maintaining Construction and Bridge Plans; Roadway Use Permits; Utility Permits; Driveway Permits; and coordinating construction activities on the County Trunk Highway System.

General Information
highwayThe Highway Department carries out summer and winter maintenance in order to fullfill it’s responsibilies to maintain travel safety and convience on all county and state highways. General maintenance includes: patching, crackfilling and pavement replacement; shoulder maintenance, roadside mowing and brush control; bridge and culvert maintenance; litter and trash pick up; guardrail installation and repair; signing; pavement marking and traffic control. Winter maintenance includes: salting and sanding for ice control; snowplowing and removal. Additionally, the department carries out road construction, pavement resurfacing (asphalt), bridge and culvert repair and installation, hotmix and gravel crushing operations plus is responsible for roads in the county forest.

To effectively accomplish these activities, the department uses storage, maintenance, repair facilities and gravel pits at various locations in the county. Maintenance sheds are located in Chippewa Falls, Boyd, Cornell and Bloomer. Administration, planning and engineering are located at the Chippewa Falls location.
