Oral Health is essential to health.  The word “oral” refers to the mouth including the teeth, gums and all supporting tissues.   Oral health is important to our general health.

Safe and effective disease prevention will improve oral health and prevent disease.
Oral Health programs offered by the health department in partnership with others include the fluoride mouth rinse school program, fluoride supplements and dental sealants.

Fluoride Mouth Rinse

Working with our local school districts, a fluoride mouth rinse program is offered during the school year to promote oral health since many of our communities do not have fluoridated drinking water.

Children swish a fluoride solution once a week during the school day over the 30 week period.

We order materials for all the districts except Chippewa Falls which does their own ordering and the Bloomer School District which does not participate.

For more information contact our office:

Fluoride Supplement

Fluoride supplements are available at no charge for children up to age 16 who live in Chippewa County communities or rural areas where there is no fluoride in the drinking water.

Participation is limited to 150 children at any one time.

The supplement is taken daily in order to promote dental health.

Seal A Smile

The health department cooperates with the Rural Health Dental Clinic based in Menomonie Wisconsin to offer dental sealants for children.

We work in conjunction with school districts in our community and provide the service at the school during the school day.
