Chippewa County Accepted for Phase VI

Following a competitive application process, the United States Department of Justice, National Institute of Corrections (NIC) announced that Wisconsin, along with the following counties:  Chippewa, Eau Claire, La Crosse, Marathon, Milwaukee, Outagamie, Rock, and Waukesha, was chosen to advance with a technical assistance grant program designed to improve public safety through the application of  proven research in the criminal justice decision-making process.

During the Phase VI implementation process, Chippewa County’s Evidence Based Decision Making (EBDM) Policy Team will address specific change targets identified in Phase V.  Detailed work plans were created to incorporate EBDM within the system surrounding jail programming; uniform guidelines for call for service codes for dispatchers and law enforcement; high volume criminal justice system individuals; and supervision of Deferred Acceptance of Guilty Plea and Intoxicated Driver Intervention Programming.  Incorporating EBDM into this process will ultimately reduce recidivism of offenders, create more effective allocation of criminal justice resources, divert low risk offenders out of the system, and increase public awareness and understanding of the criminal justice system.
