Details of Event: On Thursday, August 18, 2016 at approximately 0909 am the Chippewa County Emergency Communications Center received a 911 call from a male caller stating that there was a structure fire at apartment #3, which is on the second story of the apartment 5 plex complex, 27475 262nd Avenue, in the Town of Lake Holcombe. The male reporter indicated that a small child was still inside. An adult male and adult female, along with a 3 year old, and a 2 year old were in the residence at the time of the fire. The male, female, and 3 year old were able to exit the residence without injury. The adult male attempted to use a garden hose from the exterior of the residence to extinguish the fire which was contained to the children’s bedroom. The adult female attempted to enter the residence to remove the 2 year old but was unable to do so due to the heavy smoke and heat. Cornell Fire firefighters arrived and were able to enter the residence and rescue the 2 year old and put out the fire. The 2 year old was airlifted to a hospital in the Twin Cites Metro area. All other occupants of the apartment complex were able to escape without injury. The Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office and the Cornell Fire Department are investigating the incident.
