Glen Loch Drowning in Chippewa Falls--Names Released

Post Date:12/28/2015 1:38 PM

UPDATE:

The following are the names of the individuals involved in the drowning yesterday, William A Ruf, age 76 of 1327 Broadway Ave, Chippewa Falls, WI and Brandon K Rogers, age 33 of 19249 St. Bloomer, WI.

The Sheriff’s Department rec’d the call for assistance at around 2:39pm, with the caller indicating that he heard calls for help on the ice, on the Glen Loch waters.  The caller indicated that they believed there were two people that had fallen through the ice. Numerous emergency agencies responded and the two were removed from the water and transported to area hospitals where they were pronounced dead.

The investigation is continuing and at this time it is believed that both were ice fishing separately and that Brandon Rogers was the first to fall into the water and screamed for help.  Apparently William Ruf then came to his assistance and also fell into the water. Ice fishing equipment was retrieved that belonged to both victims, supporting the suspicion that both were fishing.

With the mild weather this winter, the ice on our lakes is certainly uncertain unpredictable, in event you are going to venture out here are a few safety tips. Always notify significant others when and where you are going and when you anticipate returning home, if possible do not fish alone, take along safety equipment, inflatable life vest, ice picks, cell phone, a rope. Continue to check the thickness of ice when moving, when in doubt stay of the ice!!!!!
